Do you know what notemine is?

A few months ago I discovered notemine, a really cool Twitteresque social networking site. You’ll like it if you’re a fan of icons. Years ago I used to have a Xanga and I’d troll the internet for cute icons that would wrap up how I felt in 100 x 100 pixel boxes. It used to be really hard to find them–especially really clever ones–but it’s really easy these days. I think that Photobucket even has a search set up just for icons.

Anyway, notemine gives you a 100 x 100 pixel box to fill with . . . whatever you want. Obviously, there’s a limit to what you can fill it with (or is there?), but it’s fun to mix color, pictures and typography in one little square.

And there’s a challenge. You can’t just do as many notemines as you want. Until you post a certain number of thoughts you have about a 20 minute limit between each “thought”. Then I think you can do it every 5 – 10 minutes. This helps keep the clutter down, and also lets you think of something really interesting to say.

Also, it’s a fairly small community of really cool people–young people. You won’t find many (if any) over 25 noteminers, because it takes a little backend know-how, like hex codes*.

Don’t let this intimidate you though. It’s really easy to figure out, and a lot of fun!

Go check it out.
